Part sculpture, part installation, No Fire Zone recounts the tragic story of the final months of the Sri Lankan
Civil War. After encouraging upwards of 300,000 civilians to seek refuge on a narrow strip of land, the Sri
Lankan government enacted a deadly shelling campaign against their population. The 8-foot-long sculpture is
installed in a small black box and is accompanied by faint sounds of breathing scattered around the room and
roving lights.
LATKES FOR 400
Latkes for 400 is an intimate time-based performance piece consisting of a candid conversation about
whiteness’ monopoly on genocide. Viewers are invited into a kitchen to engage with histories of ethnic
cleansings and international legitimization; or lack thereof. All this and more served with a side of latkes and a
sambal-based sour cream.
UNTITLED (SELF-PORTRAIT)
Untitled (Self-Portrait) antagonizes western art historical perceptions of black artists depicting personhood
and environment. The print scrutinizes language and theory to ultimately make no claim at all. In its
dimensional form, the work is an assertion of the artist in an otherwise unnoticed space.
